Describe your style in three words.
Girly, Flirty, and Romantic
How did you get your start in fashion?
INTERNSHIPS! I busted my butt, working long hours and handling gruesome tasks, all with a smile on my face. I learned so much just by quietly observing how the greats did it.
What’s your favorite piece in your closet right now?
I have a pencil dress that has this great abstract print in bold colors. I love it because I look like a walking piece of art while wearing it. It does not need much to compliment it. Nude shoes and minimal jewelry will do the job because the dress is a statement on it’s own.
What’s a deciding factor in making you selects while shopping?
Fit is the most important factor. It does not matter how cool the trend is, if it’s not flattering on YOU it’s in vain.
What style trends are you looking forward to test out?
I would love to find a great pair of high waist wide leg pants in a neutral color. I think that style is so chic. I would pair it with a bold color top to add a little fun to the look.
Go to look for work?
I’m actually a lot more comfortable in a dress than in pants. My favorite silhouette is a fit and flare. It also makes the getting dressed process so much simpler in the morning. Luckily since I work in a creative field I don’t have to adhere to a really strict corporate attire. What I wear to work is what I wear on my off days as well.
Is it better to be overdressed or underdressed for an event?
Neither. It’s best to be confident in whatever you wear to an event. When you feel great, you look great, so with confidence it won’t matter whether you’re over or underdressed.
What’s a day like for you as a fashion editor at Essence?
It’s not as glamourous as you might think. It’s full of pitch meetings and production meetings for story deadlines. It can get quite physical while preparing for a run through and schlepping clothes and accessories to and fro within the office. I do really enjoy when I get a break from the office to visit designer showrooms to see what they have in store for the next season. I also really love photo shoot days when I get to see the story I pitched come to life.
