No one told me it was Friday the 13th, but that explains why I couldn’t find my keys this morning, why my computer keeps freezing, and why I haven’t really been able to invest in this season of Project Runway. Yep, I’m just going to blame it all on the date; Friday the 13th is ruining my life. I mean it’s clearly the reason I haven’t been to the gym in over a month. You thought I was just trying to switch it up by doing other kinds of Fridays every week; but actually I was distracting myself from the reality of my own fitness failure. Luckily, I now realize that it was Friday the 13th’s fault all along; and because I refuse to let Friday May 13th, 2011 get the best of me next year, I’m ready to get back on track now.

This week, I’ve come up with some tips to help you go back to the gym after any sort of sabbatical that was not your fault, at all.

-Go to the gym. Yeah I know this one seems a little obvious; but getting there is half the battle. For me it’s all the battle. Once you’re there, you win. Who says that flirting with the card-swiper doesn’t burn calories? It totally does.

-Bring a friend—but not that crazy, gym-bunny friend who makes you feel weak and slow (we hate that friend). Bring the one who keeps your mind off the fact that you’re on a never-ending set of stairs, the fact that you’re walking as fast as you can to stay in one place, and the fact that you’re missing Project Runway.

-Start slow. I get overzealous and waste my momentary motivation on a single, 10-mile run. Then I use that one run to justify pizza, bacon-wrapped hotdogs, and skipping the gym for another two weeks. Low expectations are the key to happiness. That doesn’t sound very optimistic, but in this case it’s true.

-Keep track. If you write down everything you do at the gym, you’ll end up doing more and have written proof that you’ve been trying—that’s if you are, in fact, trying. Otherwise it’s just a scribbled testament to your slacker status. I find that oddly inspiring, don’t you?

I’m really going to take my own advice and get back in the gym. Not today or anything, but soon and extra diligently.

Best of luck,

Richy T—if there are typo’s or bad grammer, blame Friday the 13th.

You got a few behind-the-scenes pics from the shoot on Monday, but I’m pretty sure you’d rather have Kim tell you exactly what went down!
