Richy's Rant 5.9.13

So many LA schools held their high school proms on Cinco de Mayo Eve. Consequently, a lot of drunk moms approved their daughters’ dresses.

The best dress I saw was a beauty—as in the beast—featuring so much yellow tulle, I thought it she was a bell—I mean a Belle. Either way, there was something there that wasn’t there before.

That’s a step up from the Cinderella girls I saw in clear heels, which might actually be trendy this month. So dress in Skyblue and don a tiara.

Under the C girls were the girls doing Ariel stunts in Technicolor hair and mermaid dresses. Flippin’ awesome.

Anytime you can channel a Disney princess, you should do it…well.

Marissa-blogHi Marissa!  What’s your job title here?

Marissa:  I’m Vice President of Product at ShoeDazzle, which means I manage the website and lots of things related to our consumer experience.

What’s your favorite thing about the Dazzle and working for it?

M:  Just one thing?!  I love so much about working here.  I’ve been at ShoeDazzle for 4 years, so I guess I have to say watching the company grow and succeed and keeping our customers at the center of what we do has been my favorite thing.  Like some of our older clients, I feel like ShoeDazzle is a friend, not a company, and the fact that that still remains true today is pretty amazing.  PS:  A close second is that ShoeDazzle designed my wedding shoes.  That was really amazing, and I will cherish them forever!

That is incredible.  What’s your oldest pair of ShoeDazzle shoes?

M:  My oldest pair of ShoeDazzle shoes that I still wear are the Ginnys!  Shout out to the OG Dazzlers who are the only people who remember this amazing tan, platform sandal that goes with EVERYTHING.  I should have bought five pairs…

Zodiac Sign?

M:  Scorpio!  Jealous, passionate, emotional!

Best thing about your sign is _____.

M:  I’m sure my husband would have quite a lot to say about that based on my description above.

Favorite type of shoe?

M:  Oh geez, just one again?!  I love a great wedge and I love a great flat sandal.  Not-boring flat sandals (think neon, metallics and prints) I would say are basically my #1 shoe must-have.  I’m obsessed with the Yumikos right now and I have both colors of the Debbie.

What did you wear on your first date when you first met your hubby?

M:  Easy: brown wedges, light bootcut jeans and a linen yellow top.  I met my husband 9 days after I started ShoeDazzle, so my life change pretty drastically that April!

Dream vacation?

M:  Everywhere – dream vacation would be a year off with lots of money and plane tickets and I’d go around the world!  I’m obsessed with travel, and in fact, I did Semester at Sea in college which means I lived on a boat for 100 days and went to 9 different countries.  It was pretty amazing.

Guilty pleasure?

M:  Dirty Martinis, Sour Skittles, The Bachelor(ette) and People Magainze – in that order.

Beauty must haves?

M:  Eye liner, good face wash, I wear Palmers cocoa butter lotion everyday…I mean, makeup in general.  My Grandma used to say that I look MUCH better with makeup on, so I try to remember that.  :)

Words to live by?

M:  Family, Friends, Work Hard/Play Hard.  That’s not a quote, but those are things I try to live by.

On Marissa: Brooklyn Sandals (in black), Sandy Wedges (in pink), In Shape Earrings (coming soon) and Recco Bag (coming soon).

Jessica:  I’m one of the fit models here for our shoes and I am also a part of our Client Services Team.

What would you say is your favorite part about your job?
J:  My favorite part is getting to work at the Merch space and seeing all the new shoes coming out in the upcoming months!

Your ultimate style crush?
J:  I have a lot but would definitely have to go with Kerry Washington right now.  She always looks so put together and stylish on the red carpet.  I’d love to steal her closet.

Your skin is so deliciously buttery!  What’s your secret beauty weapon?
J:  Thank you!  My secret weapon is eating healthy and my Clarisonic!

Next to shoes, what’s your favorite thing to wear?
J:  Either a unique top or a dress (I’m starting to really love dresses right now).

Top 5 from your April showroom?
J:  My top picks are Seven, Ceyda, Maresa, Meja and Calista.

Song of the moment?
J:  Midnight city by M83.  Definitely a great song to listen to while stuck in traffic.

Your most treasured possession?
J:  My family is my most treasured possession.  I love them unconditionally and they are irreplaceable.  They are my biggest cheerleaders and always believe in me.

Best advice you’ve ever received?
J:  I’m going to have to geek out and quote Yoda from Star Wars: “Do or do not.  There is no try.”

kiraHey Kira!  Tell us about everyyyything you do here.
Kira:  Wellllll, I’m currently working as the in-house footwear designer for the dazzle creating unique designs that reflect the brand DNA.  It’s a great gig and it’s definitely a unique position where my creativity can thrive. Not too many companies are like that!

We can’t tell you how much we adore all the designs.  This June marks your 2 year anniversary here!  What have been some of your favorite projects?
K:  I can’t believe how fast time flies!  Seems like only yesterday I was getting my feet wet!  My favorite projects have most definitely been working with the celeb collaborations for charity and being able to work on various projects from handbags to special novelty shoes.

It’s always great to be able to give back through fashion.  Let’s talk about that DAZZLE hat!  Tell us; how do you dazzle?
K:  I dazzle the best when I’m out trend shopping.  My creative juices start to flow and it gets me ramped up to work on the next project!  Also, a little hip-hop music around the office doesn’t hurt either.  ;)

You work in what we call our “merch space” which is kind of a fairy tale.  Has it got you “thinkin’ pink?”
K:  Absolutely!  It definitely has some quirkiness that even Nicki Minaj would be inspired by!  I’m very lucky to work in a space where my mind can be free and not feel so clustered.  It definitely has many aspects of a true artist’s space.

Your ultimate designer dream crush?
K:  Alexander Wang, Balmain, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Galliano in his hay day…need I go on?

What are your spring fashion must haves?
K:  I’m so into bright color-blocking with gold accents (hence the Seven sandal), mirror metallics and iridescent are so fresh and fun for spring- true eye candy!

Speaking of candy…Who’s your man candy of the hour?
K:  Give me Lenny Kravitz any day!!

Hey Natalia!  It’s been a great year so far.  How long have you been at the Dazzle?

Natalia:  I think I’m approaching veteran status here at the Dazzle, I just had my 2-year anniversary on March 16 and I can’t believe it!  Seems like just yesterday I was buying my first pair of Ciji wedges!  But you know what they say, time flies when you’re having fun!

2 years?  Wow!  You must have some great Dazzle memories.  What’s been your favorite memory here so far?

N:  Working at ShoeDazzle has given me so many great memories but I’d have to say that one of my favorites was the launching of the new and improved ShoeDazzle site earlier this year.  We all worked together to create something that we are proud of.  It took many long nights (and early mornings) but in the end I think it turned out pretty amazing!  Hopefully our clients love it as much as we do!

The website looks great and I’m sure our clients love it.  What would you say is your favorite part about being a Product Manager at ShoeDazzle?

N:  I love so many parts of my job  Work is NEVER boring.  I would say my favorite part is that I get to be involved in many different projects and work with so many different departments (like our Creative and Teach Team), it’s really fun to see how everyone’s different contributions play out in ShoeDazzle’s growth.  And of course the endless supply of shoes are a plus too!

I think we all love the endless supply of shoes here.  You can have a different pair for every day of the month!  But if you had to live in one type of shoe, what would it be?

N:  That’s a tough question because I love so many different styles!  At my core I”m a California beach bum so I guess I’d have to go with a flat strappy sandal.  I love wearing a sandal that will show off my fresh pedicure and can take me from strand cruising to sun bathing in a blink of an eye.  This summer, I will be running around with the Annelise, Debbie and Nahzin.  All three will get their fair share of sunshine.

There is nothing better than a dreamy California summer full of palm trees and sunshine.  Who do you look to for inspiration when styling your summer wardrobe?

N:  My style crush of the moment is Blake Lively.  Whether she’s running errands or strutting her stuff on the red carpet, she makes every outfit look effortlessly chic (not to mention she has the ultimate arm candy; Ryan Reynolds!).

That couple is too much (in a good way).  Speaking of couples, your boyfriend’s a personal trainer.  You must have a killer workout mix!  What keeps you moving?

N:  He definitely keeps me on my toes with new workouts!  The best accessory to a new workout is a fresh new playlist and I’m always searching Pinterest and fitness blogs for new playlists to freshen up my workouts.  My top 3 songs of the moment are:  Suit and Tie – Justin Timberlake and Jay Z, Satellite – Rise Against and Hey Ya – OutKast.

We’ll make sure to download those!  That kind of music would work well on a fun trip too!  Any travel plans coming up?

N:  Next up is Philadelphia and Washington D.C. in September.  My boyfriend and I are going to a wedding in Pennsylvania and we decided to make a little vacation of it.

Sounds like your 2013 is shaping up to be a pretty good year.  Are there any words that can sum up this year for you?

N:  I can’t complain.  So far, so good and I’m excited to see what’s next!  My 2013 Mantra is:  Simplify.  Be Inspired.  Be Original.  Work Hard.  & Enjoy.  I really want to focus on being the best version of myself this year and enjoying life!

On Natalia: Londyn (coming soon)!

Need help picking your next favorite pair of shoes? Not to worry, ShoeDazzle has shoes for every occasion and we’ve got the inside scoop from Rachel Zoe on styling the perfect pair.

ShoeDazzle’s new chief stylist, Rachel Zoe, is a knowledgeable fashionista and go-to expert for advice about how to stay fabulous this spring. She’s sharing three of her favorite shoe trends and spring style must-haves.

Rachel’s first look is a go-to for the everyday working woman. The outfit is business appropriate yet still chic. She pairs the business attire with a new silhouette trend, t-straps. Rachel chose the Jenny lavender heels for this outfit, as well as the Raelynn gladiator heel and the June shoe in black or nude. If you’re going to rock the Raelynn, Rachel says, ”Wear them with black skinny pants and a blazer to nail down a professional look.” The June shoe is best to wear with long gowns.

Wear the primary colors

In her second lookbook example, Rachel makes it clear how important color will be in our April wardrobes. Primary-colored shoes can help us liven up everyday outfits as well as keep up with our Friday night attire. “These shoes may just inspire you to throw a party,” Rachel said of the Sevens in yellow and blue.

Know that studs are for spring, too

Studs show no sign of slowing down. We couldn’t be more excited — shoes with stud details are sure to grab attention at any outing and are perfect for those who aren’t big on accessorizing. Rachel paired the “Yumiko” platforms with an all-black maxi dress and labeled it “kind of essential” for any fashionista’s wardrobe.

Thursday'sRichyTBlog_3.28_pbAccording to me, fall/winter 2012 was exceptionally bright: pastels, neons, and Hawaiian-punch ombre extensions. In the spirit of contradiction, I’m endorsing dark colors as the new thing for spring. Generally, spring involves shiny happy colors, but this year is proving to be a whole new wonderland, and I’m down to dive into that bunny hole.

You should be, too. Here’s how to stay slinky chic this spring: You gotta Dazzle—or at least dabble—in the dark. Black is the new bright.

Think Olive and Hunter before you go Kelly; everyone will be green with envy. Ikat tell you how much I love this print.

Kennett is spot on trend and on the dot when it comes to spring do’s.

I’ve got my I-on-a shoe that quickly sneaks a little shade into the brightest of springs; Quicken.

Speaking of shades, now is the time to go full circle, like these or these from our dear Kim’s sisters from another mister.  They’ll keep you wide-eyed and bushy-tailed all season.

March 27, 2013

Hi Jimmy!   You’ve been with us for awhile now and we love ya!  Tell us a bit about your role here and being with ShoeDazzle from the very beginning.

Jimmy:  Lemmetellyasomethin…I have been here a looooong time!  Haha…My role has changed here a lot.  When I was first hired, I actually was the only creative on staff.  So, I took pictures of the shoes.  I designed the emails.  I designed printed inserts.  I worked on the site.  My duties have grown a lot since then to include art directing photoshoots, designing our various packages, and I still work on most of the printed needs of the company.  I really wish there was a way to clone myself because there certainly aren’t enough hours in the day.

We do have quite a number of wonderful things going on at all times!  As an art director, where do you go for inspiration?

J:  It’s really not hard to get inspiration working here!  My coworkers are awesome and crazy, so they inspire me everyday, even if I don’t want to be inspired.  :)   I also go to blogs and pay attention to what’s happening in music, films, theatre, magazines, etc.  As a creative, I get inspiration from the uncanniest of things…

There’s never a dull moment, that’s for sure!  You’re known for your quirkiness around the office.  What are some other gigs you’ve had before you landed this one?

J:  Tons…but the one that stands out in my mind is one that I had when I was 16.  My dad’s duck club needed all the decoys retrieved, cleaned and repainted.  So I agreed to do that as a summer job.  I went out there with him, piled about 200 decoys into the back of a pickup and took them home, soaking them in one of those kiddie pools so the dirt could be scraped off of them.  Then I painted new eyes, feathers and details on ALL OF THEM.  Took me all summer to do, and, not gonna lie, I think something was growing in the pool by the time I was done.

Sounds crazy!  What’s been your favorite shoot thus far?

J:  It’s been an evolution.  After almost every shoot, I feel like that is my favourite.  Which is good, I guess, yeah?  I feel like each shoot keeps getting stronger and stronger.  Some that have stood out in my mind are “Vivid,” “A Thing of Beauty” and “Street Brights.”  “Vivid” was awesome with the energy and movement of the model.  “A Thing of Beauty” was a shoot I’ve been wanting to do for years now with its mood and theatricality, and we were finally at a place to make it happen.  “Street Brights” was just fun and zeitgeist-y.

We love it.  It’s been really great to see the progression. Tell us something else we wouldn’t know about you.

J:  You know how they say everyone in LA is an actor?  GUILTY.  I act, I sing, umm….I don’t dance well, but I pretend to know costume design.  I don’t right good. (That was supposed to be a joke :) .  I told myself that I wanted to shoot a feature film and be cast as the lead.  I should have been more specific and said I wanted to get paid too!  It was an indie film, so it was very, very low budget.  Oh well..it was still fun to be a part of!  I really love theatre too!  Just wish I had more time for it.

You’re a passionate one!  Also, may we say that we are really feeling those sneakers on you.  What made you get them?

J:  Well…to tell ya the truth, sometimes I try the samples we get in the studio.  Yeahuh even the heels…HA.  I tried SPLASH on and they looked and felt good, so, why not?!  My first ShoeDazzle purchase for myself!  BTW, heels…?  How the heck do you walk in those?!

A true lady can always walk in her heels!  It’s officially spring.  Spring has sprung and you’re really into _____.

J:  Short-shorts and sweaty bods!  Just kidding.  Not really…but the sun is always something to look forward to.  I love being outdoors, so being able to do things when the sun is out is hella nice.

You’re also the captain of our volleyball team!  Care to share any details about that?

J:  LOVE volleyball!  I started the team shortly after we moved offices and now we’re doing pretty well.  We’ve received 2nd place a few seasons so far.  That championship is just waiting for us!

Sounds promising!  Tell us:  what do you love the most about working here?

J:  I have to admit, throughout it all, the things that make working at ShoeDazzle the best are the people.  I work with some of the most talented people I’ve ever come across.  Not only are they good at what they do, they are genuinely good people.  It makes my job easier because I can lean on them and then can lean on me.  It’s fun and there’s always something new to learn.

What would you say is your favorite part about design?

J:  What I like most about design is the problem-solving aspect of it.  Trying to figure out what will work and communicate the message I’m trying to get across with my design in an aesthetically pleasing way.

Lastly, what’s your favorite trend on women right now?

J:  Finally, an easy questions!  This has been hard!  I love seeing colour.  I think trying different colour combos and layering is always fun and adventurous.  One thing I’ve learned after working here, is not to be afraid of trying new things.  Sometimes the things that don’t seem to go together, really do work!

Thanks Jimmy!

SD Man Repeller 3.22.13

Craving all the makings of the perfect spring wardrobe? Well look no further than Leandra Medine, also known as the Man Repller’s recent collaboration with Los Angeles based brand PJK. The playful line which is literally called “Man Repeller x PJK…Just Sayin”, wouldn’t be complete without Medine’s charming personality shining through in t-shirts that read “I think all shirts should give advice”. The line also features sleek silk pants, crop tops, and tropical silk shorts that give us a little bit of the Lolita vibe. Overall, we love the line and can’t wait to try the floral on floral trend as seen on Medine above with a sleek platform pump like the Margaret.
