I’m not a denim expert; more like a denim hoarder, really. It’s kind of a problem. I just can’t toss away a pair of jeans because they aren’t ‘cool’—they aren’t like middle school friends…kidding! I’m just saying: I know my bleached-out, Marky Mark mega-pipes from 8th grade are going to make a comeback, and when they do, I’ll be ready.

Until that happens, let’s focus on current denim, modern washes, and, more importantly, what your choices say about you, now.

Deconstructed: Ok, it’s not really a wash, but when the ravaged sections aren’t a hue of blue, it counts. You’re a hot mess…emphasis on ‘hot’. You don’t give a fuss, yet your look is always fashionably put-together. Check out Shay.

Ombre: From one color to the next, you love a good transition or–better yet—transformation. That’s ok. Some might say, “all over the place”; others will say, “Life of the party.” Change into Meagan.

Color Blast: Usually you have a bright and endearing personality, but you need to go a little dark now and then. This treatment is primed for your shady/chic looks. Try on Carsen for the night.

Acid Wash: You know your stuff…is vintage—but that’s why you love it. Combined with pieces you bought at the mall yesterday, your acidic look, like you, is incomparably original.

White: Outwardly, you’re all dainty, but the truth is that you’re ready to rumble—not tumble, though, because you don’t want to get THAT dirty.

When the cooler months come upon us, it’s hard to part with summer basics. I find this to be especially true when it comes to footwear; and if you’re familiar with Southern California you know we love our sandals rain or shine. Although I’m personally wont to trade my slip-ons in for something a bit cozier when the weather gets crisp, I’m willing to add an extra layer for the sake of fashion. Luckily, sandals are sticking around with furry, sporty, and printed elements. If you can’t get your hands on that coveted furry sandal pictured above, try the sandal and sock combination. Whether you rock a heel or flat you’re going to get the best of the comfortable chic tomboy look and I’m not sure if it gets any better than that.

Bare shoulders made an appearance on streets around the globe during fashion week and I have to say I don’t mind this trend at all. The demure reveal highlights delicate collarbones while providing the perfect skin to fabric ratio for subtle sex appeal.  I particularly love the look on Australian rapper Iggy Azalea. Her Viktor Ralph dress actually forgoes exposed skin, but the contrast of the sheer and opaque  fabric work together to create the same effect. I can’t wait to test this trend out, after all I think my shoulders deserve some spotlight.

Full Skirt

Full skirts are on my radar. The genteel vibe that accompanies them brings a much needed feminine mystique to my closet full of minis and pencil skirts. Although they are known for their connection to the 50’s; they are quite versatile and are not limited to the girlish ensembles that were worn years ago. Full skirts look great with a modern edge, specifically menswear. A tailored blazer, letterman jacket, or sweatshirt adds necessary roughness without diminishing the ladylike panache of a low hemline.

The Wendy Williams Show recently featured must have shoes for Fall. Caged booties, embellished heels, and strappy closed toe stilettos are all essentials for the colder months. Shop the Nardith to get the look!

NYFW Hawaii 9.18.13

Suno, Cynthia Rowley, J. Crew, Michael Kors

Phew! I can exhale now because tropical prints are still a thing. Anything related to a humid climate with the combined scent of Plumeria and salt water has me longing for aloe, some sort of blue cocktail, sandy skin and board shorts…I LOVE board shorts!

But see, next spring will be different. Instead of graphic palm trees and waves; it’s going to be all about the vintage-inspired Hawaiian print. This may be a way of designers yearning to pay tribute to the unforgettable pipes (and fun button-down shirts) of Don Ho and even Elvis Presley. And because we won’t get to cover ourselves with these blooms for several months, it might be time to watch Blue Crush over and over again until the tide comes in.

Venice MM 9.12From left: Elsa Pataky in Elie Saab; Dakota Fanning in Viktor & Rolf via Getty Images; Scarlett Johansson in Roland Mouret

Celebs are skirting their LBDs and nixing their red carpet minidresses. Instead, they’re stepping out in ultra-sleek trousers and vampy jumpsuits. At the Venice Film Festival, Scarlett Johansson rocked high-waisted Roland Mouret pants, and Dakota Fanning looked better than ever in a Viktor & Rolf Resort jumpsuit. Meanwhile at the London premiere of her husband Chris Hemsworth’s Rush, Elsa Pataky stole the show in a flowy georgette jumpsuit by Elie Saab. Hard to believe these ladies put their pants on one leg at a time like the rest of us.
