How to Dress Like a Stylist this Summer

Hey, I’m Jonika-the Junior Stylist at ShoeDazzle. I’m that girl behind the scenes putting together the looks you love on our site. Part of what I do is staying on top of trends for upcoming seasons, and finding ways to incorporate them for ShoeDazzle. Most of my days are spent rummaging through stores, and reading fashion magazines; it’s a tough job, but somebody’s gotta do it! Here are some helpful tips to dress like you’re a stylist this summer.

I’ve always wanted to work in fashion, but I wasn’t always sure what I wanted to do exactly. All I knew was I liked what I liked, and I was a creative little child. I ended up going to The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in LA, and became an intern at ShoeDazzle shortly after I graduated. I found my way into styling, and fell in love! It’s a great mixture of creativity, and using a business mind. I’d describe my personal style as girly, with a funky flair. Think of a French woman, meets a sexy grandpa.

It’s always great to update your look for the season. I put together three looks: a weekend casual look, a summer soiree ensemble, and a more structured look. Typically when styling, details make a huge difference. It can take an outfit from looking like something you’re just wearing, to actually showing who you are. Why not let your clothes do the talking when you walk in a room.

With a lace up shoe, I might tie it in the front, rather than the back for a fun and current twist. It’s little things like that, that say, I do my own thing. Lace-up shoes are literally everywhere right now. I love them because they’re girly and sexy, and add the perfect amount of spice to your look.

I’m a huge fan of stripes. They’re very classic, and everyone is using the stripes on ribbed tops again, which is great. Perfect to throw on with a cool skirt, jeans, or overalls. Take it back to the 70’s or the 90’s era with these details; the possibilities are literally endless.

The last look is a bit more covered up, but great for an outdoor dinner or a cute rooftop brunch. Off the shoulder tops aren’t going away, and really add some sexy to an otherwise simple outfit. It looks like an oversized-mens shirt, but sexier, and really great on. You can’t lose with shoulder-sass! Plus this top has fun little ties on the sleeves to play with.

Okay, so there you have it! You’ve got what you need to know to dress like you’re a stylist! It’s really simple…just have fun with your look, and play around with different silhouettes, textures, and trends. Remember, style is a way to show who you are without speaking! Happy styling!
