Blake Von D caught our attention when she won a ShoeDazzle contest. Her unique take on fashion and beauty had us from the beginning. But, her love for law keeps us intrigued. Read on to get to know a girl with beauty and brains!
Who is Blake Von D?
I’m really just a normal girl. Like a lot of girls, I enjoy pretty things and can’t get enough of dressing up. I’m also a big dreamer and all about girl power. I think there’s nothing that women can’t do and I try to embody that in everything I do.
If you had to tell your teenage-self one thing what would it be?
“TAKE THAT OFF!” Lol. I look back at all the terrible fashion choices I made as a teenager and I cringe. I can’t even justify it by conceding that I was fashionable for the time. Nope. It was just all around terrible decision making lol.
What type of law will you practice? What made you decide to go into law?
I’ve wanted to be a lawyer since I was a little girl. I’ve always had a penchant for “proving my point”. At the moment, I’m not quite sure what type of law I want to practice. I originally thought that I would definitely go into criminal defense. But lately I’ve been giving some thought to the fields of Fashion Law or IP Law, which deals with things like copyrights and trademarks. It’s a tough decision because I’m really passionate about social justice (I also have a Master’s of Social Work) and I feel like by not doing criminal defense, I’d be letting people down. But I just have to keep reminding myself that, “It’s ok to have more than one dream.”
To put it simply your hair is amazing! Do you have any hair journey stories that you can share with our readers?
Thank you! I cut my hair into this style shortly after graduating college in 2009 and I couldn’t have chosen a better style for myself. I think it really showcases my “what you see is what you get” personality and has forced me to truly appreciate my appearance on a deeper level, without relying on hair as a crutch. I’m loving everything about this journey!
Tell us your beauty secrets! What’s something you can’t live without?
I love a good foundation. My current go-to is MACs Liquid Studio Fix Foundation. I’m also a sucker for a good tube of mascara. My favorite is Maybelline’s Stiletto Mascara. And I always close out my day by cleansing my skin with Rx for Brown Skin’s acne treatment system.
We love your style, you were literally the girl crush of our office! Whose style do you often find yourself crushing on?
I’m totally blushing! You guys sure know how to make a girl feel special. I have quite a few style crushes. It’s hard to choose a favorite, but if I had to, it would be Rihanna (at the moment). She’s fearless and always willing to make bold style choices. You can’t help but love a girl with that sort of bravery. I also love Olivia Palermo’s style. That girl has impeccable taste!
If you could raid their closet what would you take?
O goodness, where to start?! I would DEFINITELY take the Stephane Rolland dress Rihanna wore to the 2009 Glamour Magazine Awards. It was showstopping! I’d also steal off with the black Armani gown she wore to the 2012 Grammys. As for Olivia Palermo, she always has great shoes. So I’d probably start by taking a pair…or six.
Do you have any statement pieces that you guiltlessly wear over and over again?
I have a great blazer that I recently purchased from H&M that I just can’t get enough of. It goes great with almost anything. It’s kind of sad how often I find myself wanting to wear it.
Finish the sentence. When I want to refresh my wardrobe I ____________.
I always start with my shoes!
The right shoe can change the whole feel of an outfit and luckily I have Shoedazzle to feed my addiction!
Head nod to your “Notoriously Chic” shirt, what’s one of your favorite lyric’s from the great B.I.G.?
I’m glad you like it! It’s a super cute tee designed by a close friend. I have to admit, I’m not the biggest B.I.G. fan (I’m more of a Tupac kinda girl), but if I had to choose my favorite lyric from the late rapper it would have to be the opening lyrics to “Big Poppa”, “To all the ladies in the place with style and grace…”. What fashionista can’t relate to those lyrics?!
