Thirsty Thursday – One More Mai Tai

Just one more! We just want to enjoy one more Mai Tai, one more time, before we make it official and say goodbye to summer. We feel it. The days are getting shorter and a little less warm. The beach less crowded, the roads more jammed. We’ve almost made it to fall and we really couldn’t be happier (hello there, boot season ) but we’re hopeless romantics and can’t help but savor the last days of the season. You’ve been good to us, Summer, but we’re looking forward to transitioning to fall colors and maybe finally letting up on the beach-body maintenance and extreme gym routine. Cheers, to the hottest season of all time.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED (makes one cocktail)

1 oz light rum
1/2 oz dark rum
1/2 oz Orgeat syrup*
1/2 oz orange liquer
1/2 oz lime juice
Maraschino cherry for garnish

*(can substitute with creme de almond or a simple syrup with a touch of almond extract)

HOW TO MAKE

Pour all ingredients (except for dark rum) into a shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into an old-fashioned glass (or short tumbler) half filled with ice, top off with the dark rum, and garnish with a maraschino cherry.

OPTIONAL: For a fun gradient effect, try pouring maraschino cherry syrup (or Grenadine) into the bottom of the glass before adding the rest of the ingredients.
