To Crop or Not To Crop

The first time I donned a crop top, my guy friend asked me where the other half of my shirt was. Needless to say, sporting your bare midriff is not for the feint of heart, only extremely bold or freakishly beautiful girls can do it, until now (I’d say I belong with the former, fyi).

The crop top made its first reappearance since the ‘90s in always on-trend American Apparel stores about a year ago, but the fashion collections made it official. The tiny top spent a good couple decade in hiding, making room for those other hard-to-wear items like the low-rise jean and the harem pant, but I’d like to announce it’s official return, the darling things that Prada put out make it no question this is a new fashion staple. This is how trends are born, a piece that used to be reserved for teen girls and ladies with workout video abs is now joining the mainstream. The question is, are you?

Pulling it off these days is a lot easier than it used to be, IMO. It’s ultra flattering paired with high-waisted shorts, pants or skirts, showing off just an inch or two of waist, instead of everything including your belly ring. In shapes like the bustier style, as well as flirtatious prints, it’s a darling piece that almost acts as an accessory. I’m all about the crop top right now with cooler weather on the horizon; it takes less bravery to sport one paired with a slouchy cardigan, which can be buttoned up or down to go from office to after-work. Who knew little more than a bra could be so versatile! We vote to crop.
